Right out of college, I began working for a small luxury window treatment boutique. As a seamstress, I spent countless hours hand stitching. Somehow, this solidified denim as the primary material of my sewing practice. While I didn’t use it in professional sewing, it exemplified all the qualities I looked for as a step away from finicky fabrics and delicate threads.

Denim is a durable, unyielding fabric that is made to last. It withstands most damage and can be reshaped into practically anything.

I source jeans from my local Salvation Army and turn them into vests, jackets, and quilted denim inserts. For the purpose of this project, I turned my hobby (not a real business & will never be a real business!) into a faux denim company.

All images are mine, as are the recycled denim pieces.
